BaliPure defeated Baguio, enters V-League Semis

This wasn’t an ordinary match, when powerhouse BaliPure trashed Baguio that extended its fifth straight win and grabbed a berth in V-Shakey’s League 13-Open Conference Semi-finals on Wednesday at San Juan Arena.

While everyone was expecting Alyssa Valdez to outperform, it was Gretchel Soltones who exploded a massive 20 points, while Amy Ahomiro and Dzi Gervacio scored 12 and 11 respectively and Valdez who has been on an average of hitting 23 points in last two games could only manage to add 8 points.

In just 59 minutes Water Defender swallowed Summer Spikers effort that fashioned out a 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 victory for a upcoming and much awaited clash with the unbeaten and early semi-finalist Pocari Sweat on Saturday to restrict its elimination round.

Baguio, although did not win a single match in the season and finished the conference after 7 game loss, they still gained lot of experience playing against some of the best V-League teams. In the clash Maria Tsuchiya and Carmela Dicksen combined had 12 markers for Summer Spikers but no win in seven matches.
Coach Soriano did not worry about Valdez scoring only 8 points, who believes engaging all players and utilizing their best capacity was more important

“What we want is for everyone to be engaged and involved, walang player na she doesn’t feel like she’s part of the team,” said Soriano. “Not everyone will get the main role, even a supporting role is the best as long as it helps the goal of the team and that of course is a win.”

The team efforts were clearly visible during the clash, Dzi Gervacio gave 10 attack points, Amy backed 12 markers along with 3 aces, which was a solid back for Soltones. Jem Ferrer and Ella de Jesus were off the game, however Karla Bello smashed excellent 22 sets added to 86 sets in the last two games.
