Philippine men’s national basketball team that will banner Country’s bid in Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament is finally here. 14-man line up for the team Gilas Pilipinas was exposed yesterday by Butch Antonio on his Twitter account after meeting with all coaches.

Names of 14-man Squad are:
Jayson Castro,
June Mar Fajardo,
Gabe Norwood,
Japeth Aguilar,
LA Tenorio,
Marc Pingris,
Calvin Abueva,
Terrence Romeo,
Bobby Ray Parks,
Ryan Reyes,
Ranidel de Ocampo,

Andray Blatche

The team will head to Europe to their national team’s training camp for three week. Gilas narrowed down the selection from actually 24 members to 14 and 12 will go for final event (two member will be on reserve list).

Out of which Andray Blatche was a sole member who gained assured spot in the team. However, San Miguel’s Marcio Lassiter, who is arguably the best outside sniper of the team is out of the roster. As he is suffering from bronchitis and missed almost a week’s practice also there wasn’t any action seen by him in the tune up games against Iran. However, Andray Blatche incredibly led the way for Philippines with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Ravena, Messrs and Tautuaa were initially ruled out of team during selection process.

The announcement was schedule to come after Gilas defeated Iran with 81-70 on Wednesday for the tune-up game hosted at Smart Araneta Coliseum, but Coach Tab Baldwin wanted to “rethink things”, so the decision was delayed.

Coach Tab Baldwin stated –
“Credit to the players for making this decision very difficult for us. It’s tough because the players really gave their all. But it’s part of our job to make these decisions. The worst part of it and it never gets easy.”

Philippine team heads to Greece on Friday before moving to Turkey and participate in pocket tournament in Italy.
