Lady Warriors outlast Baguio to reach V-L semis

Top hitter Michele Gumabao and Myla Pablo sat out of game due to injuries, but still Pocari Sweat managed to smash Baguio with 25-18, 25-17, 25-15, yesterday to cement team’s berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference at The San Juan Arena.

Elder sister of Kim (La Salle Star) Rossan Fajardo moved ahead and tangled 15 hits along with 11 on attacks. Maricar Nepomuceno fled 12 hits for Pocari Sweat that rolled out their 4th straight victory. They are also now recognized as solo lead in this year’s season opening conference of Shakey’s League.

Fajardo that played with brilliance said –

“I doubled my effort and really stepped up for the team. But it’s our good communication inside the court that carried us through,”

Most powerful duo Gumabao and Pablo who capable to bring 18 and 14 hits on an average remained out because of abdominal pain and the latter back spasms, respectively. During the practice session, Pablo hurt her back because she landed bad and later was taken to hospital. After examination, she was advised to remain out of the game for at least two matches. Gumabao has strained abdomen, while she already missed one important match, it is still aching her to get the action back.

Elaine Kasilag who is currently at the 3rd highest scorer of the team gave 13 hits to win yesterday’s game. She also played college ball for Perpectual Help-Biñan and now she is the biggest hope for the team occupying the gap left by Gumabao and Pablo.

The Summer Spikers had rapt their fourth straight loss. Gyselle Sy, a rookie setter out of Far Eastern University, gave her share to pull out excellent 37 so that Pocari’s attack remains on track.
In contrast, Lady Jet Spikers experienced their first defeat after taking home three straight wins the season.
