The UAAP MVP (Most Valuable Player) Table Tennis star of Filipino Ian Lariba is all set to kick start the medal hunt of Philippines in the most awaited upcoming event Rio De Janeiro 2016 Summer Olympics
Started at the age of 9, Lariba has been playing the game of table tennis for more than 12 years and now she is needs to play the elimination round on 6th of August just after the kick-off ceremonies of Rio Olympics takes place.
Three months ago Lariba qualified for the table tennis women’s singles event in 2016 Rio Olympics after inputting all her efforts in Hong Kong. She recently stated:
“I hope all the sacrifices and hardships during training will pay off in Rio,’’
For her, just making it to Rio isn’t sufficient. As she is the first Filipino table tennis player who made it to Olympics, Lariba wants to set high standards for future athletes who aspire to go beyond boundaries.
She will be participating in a high-level meeting set to begin in Singapore next week and then she will fly to Rio on 23rd of July with other fellow Filipino Olympians.
Other Olympians that are joining Lariba in the Aug. 5-21 global quadrennial Games are Hidilyn Diaz and Nestor Colonia of weightlifting, boxers Rogen Ladon and Charly Suarez, hurdler Eric Cray, long jumper Marestella Torres-Sunang and marathoner Mary Joy Tabal of athletics and taekwondo’s Kirstie Elaine Alora.
Schedule for 6th August is planned for swimming and boxing before Lifters Diaz (53kg) and Colonia (56kg) to grab the center stage a day after. Golfer Miguel Tabuena and Angelo Que who are currently at the place of 38th and 53rd in the world respectively are also expected to qualify for Rio after completing International Golf Federation Next week.
