Jet Spikers overpower Smashers, a win closer to V-League Finals

Top seed Philippine Air Force bounced back with a revenging win against Laoag Power Smashers – only team that dealt Jet Spikers their lone defeat in the elimination. Veteran Judy Caballejo banged on court in the last two set as Air Force blasted Laoag, 25-20, 26-24, 26-24, on Wednesday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

Now Jet Spikers are a step closer to their first-ever championship in the V-League. The awesome twosome Joy Cases and Caballejo led the Air Force with 15 points each while May Ann Pantino and Jocemer Tapic managed to finish at 10 and 13 points respectively. Cases pushed 14 kills, Cabellejo nailed down 11 spikes, 3 aces and one kill block for Jet Spikers.

In the critical second frame, Caballejo smartly keyed the team from 18-22 down, shooting a kill for 25-24 that fortunately lead to two-set advantage. In the third frame when the game was at a tie 24, the former UST star also fired an off-the-block hit along with one more ace to smash off Power Smasher. Laoag tried hard to stop the veteran, Paat fired 13 points, Jovielyn Prado finished at 12 and Galanza had 11 for the team, but wasn’t really sufficient to pull off Jet Spikers.

Jimenez, Air Force coach who previously said, that the team is going to make use of the loss against Laoag for motivation when playing semifinals, proved that the team is true to their words.

After the match Jeffry said for Caballejo –

“She just took over in crucial situations for us,”

On the other hand, top seed Cignal and No. 2 Air Force trekked their respective semifinals now bolstered their move to title duel for Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Open Conference Crown. Both games Spikers Turf and V-League semis will be held on Saturday at The Arena.
