Import Brownlee scored 26 points to lead the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in a 107-93 win over the Meralco Bolts on Saturday in PBA Governors’ Cup.
Brownlee also had six assists and three rebounds for his all-around performance to uplift the offense of the Kings. Fil-Am Solomon Mercado had 19 points and four assists to compliment the output of Brownlee. Also, Japeth Aguilar contributed 15 points and six rebounds in 7-for-9 shooting. Aguilar’s efficiency was one of the reasons why the defense of the Bolts couldn’t totally contain Ginebra.
Coach Tim Cone finally found the right combinations for the starters while he also got help from the bench with Mark Caguioa finishing 13 points and two rebounds. Point guard LA Tenorio finished with nine points.
The Bolts tried their best to weather the storm when they tied the game at 68 with three minutes in the third quarter through Jimmy Alapag’s shot outside the arc. Meralco couldn’t maintain the momentum as Ginebra went on to have a 13-3 run to end the quarter, 81-71.
Cliff Hodge scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Meralco. Reynel Hugnata added 18 points and eight rebounds. On the other hand, import Allen Durham finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.
Ginebra climbs into 3-1 record while Meralco drops into 2-2.
