Marcio Lassiter delivered the winning shot for the San Miguel hitting a 3-pointer from left wing with just 0.5 seconds at the clock to help the team outlast NLEX Road Warriors in PBA Governor Cup on Friday, 22 July 2016 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With not much at stake, arch rivals San Miguel and Road Warriors, dished out good spirited basketball, and in the end it was a disappointing day for Road Warriors as the defending champions Miguel pulled out a slim win over the latter.

The Beermen exploded massive 17-points in the 3rd quarter, but back-to-back 3-pointer from Alex Cabagnot and Lassiter in the last 27.1 seconds almost brought Miguel back in the game. Lassiter finished at 8 points markers and 9 rebounds, while AZ Ried remained the star for Miguel adding 23 points and 11 rebounds. June Mar Fajardo also added 16 points off the bench.

Asi Taulava pushed NLEX ahead by 5 piercing in the final minute, which led San Miguel to call for time. Arizona Ried missed out on an attempt in the resulting play, but Lassiter found Alex Cabagnot for a triple to cut the lead to only 2 with 27 seconds left. It was also exciting to see the heated battle between Asi Taulava and David Semerad that ended to a double technical foul. Ronald Dulatre, team manager of NLEX was called a “T” in the event.

San Miguel Coach Leo Austria said – “We teetered on the brink but survived, getting lucky with that Lassiter 3-pointer,”

“We designed the final shot for AZ (Reid) although he’s not shooting well. By instinct, he found and gave it to Marcio. Marcio himself had a bad shooting night, but in his final shot, he showed his shooting prowess,” Austria added.

Although Henry Walker notched 33 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assist and 2 steals, just 2 failed attempts in last 20 seconds gave San Miguel a chance to steal the game. Just then Lassiter in the final few seconds saved his best to lift San Miguel to a 94-93 win over NLEX.
