Meralco beats Alaska to make it two in a row

Once again, Meralco Blots proved itself “the best” of all PBA Teams by outlasting Alaska Aces with 100-96 score and remained unbeaten as the PBA Governors Cup unfolds on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Aces that played without Abueva dropped their first game bowing at Bolts 2-0 standings. Calvin Abueva is said to taking rest after training with National Team Gilas Pilipinas since last two months. Absence of Abueva came as a major advantage for Bolts while Allen Durham, Jared Dillinger and Chris Newsome joined hand to finish of Aces in opener of 41 Governors’ Cup.

Durham gave 36 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assist while Chris Newsome added 19 points, Jared Dilinger and Reynel Hugnatan added 13 and 11 scores respectively. It was a tight battle; Alaska replaced Abueva with the import LaDontae Henton who added solid 33 points and 12 rebounds to the team. Alaska was leading the match in the first half with 10 points, but nothing to stop Meralco that bounced back with double efforts in the second period ended at 48-46.

Meralco Head coach Norman Black expressed his happiness after the match stating:

“It’s a good thing we’re able to survive this weekend. We had back-to-back games to start the conference and I was a little worried about that,” “I’m happy we’re able to get the two wins this weekend.”

Alaska did not give up till the final minute as the team cut down the 11-point deficit with just two minutes left at 96-99, after extending the thrill surrounded with RJ Jazul bury two 3-pointers and import Henton had 16 points at the break. Kevin Racal had his own 9 point for Aces.

Black wants his team to practice more so as to incorporate newly acquired guard Jonathan Uyloan and Iranian player Mohammad Jamshidi, who played for less than 14 minutes but missed 6 attempts.
