Rey Nambatac massively dropped 40 points and had 10 rebounds, seven came from offensive end, and two assist in the best individual performance of a player as Letran Knights defeated San Sebastian Stags 90-77 in the NCAA Season 92 Senior Basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan on Tuesday.
Letran was ahead in the final minutes, but Nambatac still wanted to outperform by giving 40-point performance that was last seen four years ago by former Knights star Kevin Alas. With this win defending champions Knights moved up to 4-1 score.
McJour Luib smashed 12 points for Knights, who bounced back after losing to San Beda in the opener. Jerrick Balanz and John Calvo did their part by adding 11 and 10 points, respectively. San Sebastian was lead by Regile Ilagan scoring 23 points, while Costelo and Capobres added 17 and 11, respectively but could made it till the end.
Nambatac had 12 points in the 1st quarter before pushing Letran to 43-38 halftime lead. However, in the second quarter audiences were stunned to see Knights outscore the stags with 20-10 pointers. Nambatac, is now the first player to break 40 point to the basket this season.
Jeff Napa who is happy about Nambatac’s performance made it clear that Knights team is not just about Nambatac but the whole team.
“Di kami nagrerely kay Rey lang. Nagrerely kami sa 15 players,” he said.
