The Mapua Cardinals overpowered Lyceum Pirates, 75-64, Tuesday in continuation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association at the Fil-Oil Arena in San Juan City.
Allwell Oraeme had 22 points, 25 rebounds and five blocks to lead the Cardinals as they have a great start, winning their first three games. CJ Isit added 16 points while Exiqiel Bitend had 15 points to complete the troika of Mapua’s dominance.
Oraeme’s all-around performance enabled the Cardinals to have a 58-42 lead after three quarters. Lyceum rallied and cut the deficit into six, 70-64, with less than two minutes left but the Pirates couldn’t complete the comeback.
“Despite our strong start to the season we know we still have to work some more especially if we are to compete with teams like Arellano and San Beda. We are not yet in the form we want to be,” said Mapua coach Atoy Co after the victory.
Mike Nzeusseu had 16 points and 19 rebounds in a losing cause for the Pirates, who suffered their third defeats in three games. Jesper Ayaay added 15 points and eight rebounds.
Oraeme attained a double-double stature in the first half with 12 points and 10 rebounds as Mapua had a 38-35 lead.
