Lyceum Pirates today grabbed their much-needed win against winless St. Benilde Blazers, 85-58 making it second straight win in the NCAA Season 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament at San Juan Arena.
Pirates took early charge with a 17-7 edge in the first quarter, and smashed an easy 33-23 spread at halftime. Lyceum sustained their lead to 59-45 coming to third quarter before totally hovering over the 4th quarter.
Cameroonian Mike Nzeusseu had 15 points and 22 rebounds, Shaq Alanes chipped 11 points also Wilson Baltazar added 13 points to move Pirates’ win-loss record to 2-3. Head Coach of Pirates, Topex Robinson was however suspicious about Blazers despite of having a 0-5 record, and believed Benilde is not a team that would give up easily.
“Prior to the game I just reminded them the standing of Benilde is not the reflection of the team, don’t fall for the 0-5 trap and that it would be easy, they’re not going to give it to us,” said Robinson. “I just have to keep on reminding these players to honor the game, give your best no matter who you’re facing.”
Pirates, in their win over JRU on 15th July, Nzuesseu bolstered 24 points and 21 rebounds with total support from Adrian Alban who added 19 points to help their team grab their first win in NCAA.
Blazers are still winless in six games; this is considered as their worst start since 2004. Yankie Haruna had 13 point and 11 rebounds and Christian Fajarito notched 13 points to lead Blazers, but remained helpless in-front of super power Pirates. Baltazar and Shaq Alanes also did their part by 13 and 11 points on the offensive end, respectively.
Jose Rizal University (JRU) also won against EAC with 60-59 on Thursday in the NCAA 92 Season at same venue.
