KaTropa grabs Game 4, ties series at 2-2

Import Joshua Smith had 20 points and 15 rebounds to help the TNT KaTropa Texters in a 102-97 Game 4 win over the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Smith played with such intensity at both ends of the floor that provided the relief for the Texters as they tied the best-of-seven series to 2-2. Smith showed that they were not supposed to be intimidated by the big line up of the Beermen.

Jayson Castro scored 10 of 17 points in the fourth quarter that distanced the Texters over the Beermen. Castro’s ability to penetrate and to pass made the defense guessing.

The weapons of TNT were totally at full disposal getting 13 points each from Troy Rosario and Ranidel De Ocampo. Roger Pogoy finished with 14 points while RR Garcia contributed 10 points.

The Beermen didn’t give up easily as they were just three points behind, 94-91, with 3:08 left. Charles Rhodes scored 22 points while Alex Cabagnot added 18 points. Marcio Lassiter had 14 points while bigman June Mar Fajardo added 13 points. Arwind Santos posed 12 points.

“It was a hard-fought game and it’s nice that we ended up with a win,” TNT coach Nash Racela said after getting six players in twin digits. “But all we did was tie the series, cut it down to a best-of-three.”

“It will be war (in Game 5),” added the rookie coach. “I don’t expect them (Beermen) to back down. We just have to find ways to win, like we did tonight.”

Game 5 of the Commissioner’s Finals is on Friday.
