Durham’s triple-double helps Bolts beat Picanto

The Meralco Bolts defeated Kia Picanto, 112-97, through the sterling performance of Allen Durham in the PBA Governors’ Cup Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Durham posted a triple-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists to lead Meralco in dominating Picanto. Durham’s all-around game enabled Meralco on top of the PBA standings with 4-0 record.

Meralco created the distance at halftime by leading 57-41. Aside from Durham, Chris Newsome scored 11 of his 19 points in the first quarter. Newsome also added seven assists to compliment Meralco’s import.

“I thought it was a very good effort from my team offensively and defensively,” Meralco coach Norman Black said. “We wanted to be very focused going into this game, we didn’t want to stumble because our goal is to stay in the Top Four and get a twice-to-beat advantage.”

Baser Amer had 17 points while Garvo Lanete added 14 for the Bolts.

Import Markeith Cummings had 20 points to lead Picanto while Reden Celda added 17 points.

Meralco overcame the absence of Cliff Hodge in the second half after spraining his ankle in the midst of second quarter. Reynel Hugnatan also sufferen a sprained ankle in the third quarter.
