A week ago, when Bloober Team revealed the official requirements for their new horror game The Medium, many of us wondered why they specified that the settings were targeting 30 FPS. Now we have a good idea of what is happening, and that is that the game has serious performance/optimization problems, to the point that not even the GeForce RTX 3080 can run it at 60 FPS in 1080p, High and with RT disabled.
The folks at DSOG packed the NVIDIA GPU with an i9 9900K and 16GB of RAM @ 3800 MHz however, and as we can see, this was not enough to run The Medium smoothly. For starters the game features stuttering despite being installed on a 970 PRO NVMe SSD.
In terms of FPS, the Bloober Team title falls below 60 FPS with the RTX 3080 even at 1080p / High settings and without Ray Tracing or DLSS.
Moving to higher settings, The Medium’s performance suffers even more with the RTX 3080. At 1440p / High and with Ray Tracing and DLSS on, the game runs at just 46 FPS.
Lastly, the site notes that these disappointing numbers are not related to the Dual Reality system featured in the title, as at 1440p, high quality, Ray Tracing, and DLSS enabled, they achieved over 80 FPS. But of course, this happened only in a specific scene, which shows that the game has serious optimization problems.
