HBO Max Is Also Working On An Animated Series Based On ‘Game Of Thrones’

Less than a week ago The Hollywood Reporter announced that HBO Max was working on a second live-action series inspired by Game of Thrones. And now he adds that the WarnerMedia platform also wants to develop an animated series.

According to the magazine, this project is in the early stages of development and no deal has yet been closed. But HBO Max is holding meetings with different writers to explore the possibilities of potential animation, which would have the same tone as the original series and would be equally aimed at adult audiences.

If successful, this project would join the other two live-action series based on the universe created by George RR Martin that the platform is developing. The first is House of the Dragon, a fiction set 300 years before the events narrated in the original series and based on Fire and Blood, two books not novels dedicated to the history of Westeros under the reign of the Targaryen dynasty. Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Paddy Considine will star in this series, which is scheduled to premiere on HBO in 2022.

The second prequel will be the recently announced adaptation of The Tales of Dunk and Egg, a fiction based on the books of the same name about the adventures of a young Aegon V Targaryen, Egg, and Ser Duncan the Tall, Dunk set 90 years before the events narrated in A Song of Ice and Fire.

The idea of ​​HBO is then, to expand the universe of Game of Thrones with various audiovisual projects in different formats. To do this Francesca Orsi, director of HBO’s drama division, and her team is working with Martin himself, with whom they signed an exclusivity agreement.

The main objective of the company is to feed its streaming platform, HBO Max. In fact, it is doing the same with other famous HBO properties such as Sex and the City or the conglomerate it belongs to WarnerMedia, with a possible Harry Potter series.

About animation, a few days ago Variety published that Netflix is ​​developing two animes based on Tomb Raider and King Kong, the latter titled Skull Island, in addition to other animations of the giant inspired by Pacific Rim, The Witcher, or Altered Carbon.

Also, last December Disney + announced its multimillion-dollar plans to dominate streaming: the giant will invest between 8,000 and 9,000 million dollars in content for the platform, producing in the next years 10 Star Wars series, another 10 Marvel, and 15 Pixar and Disney, among other titles.
