In the Ahmedabad Test (Ahmedabad), India beat England by two days to take a 2–1 lead in the Test series. After this match, where some former English players and the media are crying out for a ‘bad pitch’, former Australian captain Ian Chappell (Ian Chappell) has praised India. Chappell has said that the Indian team took good advantage of England’s weakness and used it well in its own way. India defeated England by 10 wickets in a day-night match in Ahmedabad.

The spin bowlers were the most important contributors to India’s victory, who took 19 wickets out of 20 from England. Earlier in the second Test match in Chennai also, the Indian spinners dared the batsmen of England a lot and gave the team an easy win. Former Australian heavyweight Chappell appeared to be heavily influenced by England’s weakness against spin in such a strategy.

India Affected The Mentality Of England

Chappell said that the Indian team took advantage of the weakness of England against spin in Chennai and took advantage of it in Ahmedabad and played through the English batsmen’s mind. In his column on ESPN-Cricinfo, Chappell wrote,

“India decided to feed three spinners in the Test because no batsman other than Joe Root on the Chennai pitch could do well against the spin.” India used it properly, influencing their mentality and used it for their own benefit.

Do Not Rely On Defensive Sports

The Australian veteran also pointed to the weakness of the England batsmen, due to which he could not face the Indian spinners properly. Chappell wrote, “When faced with the serious challenge of spin, the England batsmen were not confident of their defensive game, due to which they tried to take an aggressive stand against the Indian spinners. He was resorting to reverse sweep instead of playing out of the crease, which is an example of this.

According to Chappell, against spinners, batsmen can achieve success with better use of steps. He said, “The batsman has the option to play the shot at the place according to his mind with the use of steps to reduce the impact of spin. This is a skill that is learned early in the game.
