KonoSuba is a favourite title for every time the Isekai genre has been composed. Composed by popular Isekai writer Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima, KonoSuba first emerged on the user-generated light novel website Shosetsuka ni Naro. This happened back in December 2012, you know, when things were normal and peaceful. Later on, because of its rising popularity, it was taken up for book by Kadokawa Shoten under their Sneaker Bunko Imprint. This released version was conducted from October 2013 until May 2020. The light book series also inspired a manga based on the story. The manga adaptation was illustrated by Masahito Watari and Joseph Yokobori and published by Fujimi Shobo within their Monthly Dragon Ace manga magazine in the year 2014.
The Light novel itself motivated many spin-offs after it ended in the 17th volume. So Natsume ended up writing three spin-offs for its figures Megumin, Dust, and Vanir. The novel was licensed in English for North America by none other than Yen Press on May 20, 2016, forward. The anime adaptation based on the manga is a very common case of Isekai shows in general. KonoSuba fulfils every fan’s Isekai dreams fast and simply without adding a lot of a hard stir in the story itself.
The anime has been accommodated by Studio Deen which aired from January 14, 2016, and March 16, 2016. The anime has had a fantastic run of 2 seasons and numerous OVAs. Ever since the next season finished, fans were rooting for a third person.
So, what is KonoSuba about? Where are we in the story up to now? And when are people getting the next season of this series? Let’s find out.
As stated earlier, KonoSuba is adapted from a book by a famous Isekai writer. And so, it’s the prime example of an Isekai show. The narrative follows the life of Kazuma Sato, a teenager who gets offered to be hauled to a parallel universe. This world wouldn’t be like the normal one as it’d have game-like MMORPG components where he can wield powerful weapons and combat monsters. And even though he gets an offer to be given a fantastic weapon, he chooses Aqua the goddess to accompany him rather.
They land in the town of Axel and Kazuma soon finds out that choosing Aqua was a fairly bad idea. She’s now trapped together because she cannot be reincarnated as a goddess unless the Devil King is defeated. Both go on to recruit two other members into the party. A magician who wishes just about explosions and also a crusader named Darkness.
Recognizing it is all but impossible to conquer the Devil King, Kazuma gently gives upon the whole pursuit. Instead, he attempts to live a lavish life but how his Isekai life is set up, every subsequent day brings him closer and closer to going up from the Devil King himself. How long before he must fight him to the death?
Thus far, no official statements have been made regarding the release of KonoSuba season 3. Doubtlessly, with the light books only end in 2020, there are a lot of source material to go by. And with the rising popularity of the series, we could see that a season 3 might be possible. So, accordingly, we can expect the next season to start airing sometime in the past quarter of this year 2022, or the first quarter of 2023. Until then, fans will have to await a formal announcement from the productions.
