DB Woodside, a long-time friend of “Lucifer”, has been involved in the production since its inception. Despite being familiar with the program, he is still pleasantly surprised by it. He is particularly excited to direct the sixth, final season.

Woodside has shared the details of his career in the film industry, with credits including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” 24, and “Suits.” He recently joined us for an Instagram chat. We were able to learn more about his approach and offer advice for young actors wanting to work behind the camera.

Since being picked up by Netflix, Woodside has had a string of additional “Lucifer” successes.

“I was an avid athlete all my life. So there’s some joy in getting railed at when you’re an athlete.

I believe that people took unjustified digs against ‘Lucifer’ and I believe that writers and producers worked hard on this show. It’s great seeing how much people enjoy it and even better performing it for them.

Lucifer” isn’t scared to address world events.

“I know that some people just want to escape their life by watching television. I feel the same way. I tune in to my shows when I’m struggling. I simply want to escape from my everyday life and watch a show that is completely unrelated to it.

I do believe artists should feel a sense of duty. If you plan to make a series about cops, you must include some episodes that address the issues. In Season 5, we had the chance to do this.

Woodside needed to make a strong case for himself to be allowed to direct.

“Directing has always been something I wanted to do. However, it’s been difficult to break into this industry. It can be difficult to work for a company that is well-known and has been around for a long time.

People are often unable to see you doing something different, or even imagine you doing it. It was necessary to be persuaded repeatedly. I am grateful for their assistance. But I had so much support that I couldn’t fail.”

Woodside urges young performers, no matter how difficult, to never give up on themselves.

“You must never give up. I assumed that it would be a natural progression because I am hardworking and have been with the company for 20-25+ years that all doors would open. I was stunned to find out that this wasn’t the case.

I advise you to keep your hustle and grind in all you do. Do not stop working. You need to keep pushing and fighting every day. Although it sounds exhausting, you can still take breaks. Be strong and persistent, advocate for yourself. “Don’t accept no as an answer.”
