‘One-Punch Man‘ is a Japanese superhero action franchise. It is created by the artist ONE. The anime series is directed by Shingo Natsume (Season 1) and Chikara Sakurai (Season 2). Production by Chinatsu Matsui and Nobuyuki Hosoya.
Season 1 was broadcast in Japan from October to December, 2015. Further, the second season was broadcast from April to July, 2019. In the US, season 1 and 2 premiered in June, 2016 and October, 2019 respectively.
On a supercontinent Earth, powerful monsters and villains wreak havoc in the cities. In response, millionaire Agoni creates the Hero Association which employs superheroes to fight the evil beings.
Saitama is an unassociated hero and hails from City Z. He performs heroic deeds for his enjoyment and has trained himself to the point of being able to defeat any enemy with a single punch. But, his unrivaled strength has left him with an overwhelming sense of boredom.
Saitama and Genos (a cyborg) join the Hero Association. However, due to a low score in the written entry exam, Saitama is placed at a low-entry rank. As a result, his feats stay unnoticed and unappreciated by the public. Further episodes deploy spectacular action scenes.
Next, season 2 introduces a new character Orochi, an overarching antagonist. Referencing the Manga series, season 3 is likely to consist of Hero Association launching an attack on their evil counterparts. Hence, the third season is going to be full of epic fighting scenes and action-packed affairs.
On Rotten Tomatoes ‘One-Punch Man’ has an approval rating of 100% based on 12 reviews. While the second season received mixed reviews. IGN gave the second season a 5/10 rating.
Although the second season came after 4 years of the first season, the fans can hope that this would not be the case in season 3. No doubt the ongoing pandemic would have affected the production, if all goes well, the third season can happen sometime in 2021.
