Well about that, there are some bad news. Netflix initially renewed Queen Sono for another season 2 months after its premiere. The writers of Season 2 were already working on it. They had planned on taking the story across the landscapes of Africa, to show more of what South Africa has to offer.
But then the worst thing in the world happened. The pandemic arrived. The pandemic shut down enough production houses and stalled the world for a few months. In November, Netflix decided to not take the series any further. They came to the conclusion that it would be extremely difficult to shoot Season 2.
Netflix sees a lot of potential in the South African series. Therefore it has taken up a second original South African series, Blood and Water.
It is sad to say goodbye to Queen Sono, but it is what it is. One thing is for sure, South African Originals have a lot to offer to the world and Netflix is going to help them do that.
