The Ragnarok season 2 finale may have just set up the arrival of one of Thor’s kids from Aztec mythology. From the early tales, the God of Thunder sired three children, whose names are Magni, Modi, and Thrúd.
Netflix’s Norwegian activity series has already featured a story where one of its gods spawned an offspring. Shortly after being disclosed as Loki, Laurits (Jonas Strand Gravli) discovered he had what he thought was a tapeworm. This creature turned out to be Jörmungandr aka the Midgard Serpent, the monster faking to fight Thor. In the Norse myths, the Midgard Serpent is regarded as the”kid ” of Loki.
Ragnarok’s Thor, Magne (David Stakston), may soon have a child of his own much sooner than expected. In the season two finale, Magne was in a struggle with Saxa (Theresa Frostad Eggesbø), who had made a catch for his hammer. During their battle, Saxa abruptly uttered Magne, which led to both having sex. It was a surprising turn of events, but none with no basis. Though it has not been stated in the series, Saxa is very clearly based on the Giant called Járnsaxa. Despite being an enemy of Thor, the two became lovers and had a kid named Magni, who survives Ragnarok and assists his father to conquer a giant.
Magna and Saxa having a tryst in season 2 surely makes it seem like Thor and Járnsaxa’s relationship are now playing in modern times, which means that the product of the love could be introduced as well. It’s likely that they’ll find in Ragnarok season 3 that Saxa is pregnant with Magne’s kid, which would make him a half-god, half-giant. This would of course cause Magne, that just turned 18, to suddenly be faced with a life-changing development. This would naturally have an impact on his connections with his loved ones and the gods he is currently allied with in the series. There’s also the matter of what Ran (Synnøve Macody Lund) and Fjor (Herman Tømmeraas) will think about it, considering that they respect Magne as their biggest enemy.
Furthermore, maternity reveals for Saxa would have huge implications for her story and Magne’s. Based on how they left matters, it’s not altogether clear what their connection is moving forward, since there’s still lots of bad blood between them in Ragnarok. This could bring about both being forced to place their differences aside forever, together along with different figures in their lives seeking to eliminate the youngster or use it as a weapon in the future. Plus, a story where Magni is imagined would surely complicate whatever the show is building toward with Magne and his season two love interest, Signy (Bilie Barker). Signy is believed by many to be the reincarnation of Thor’s wife, Sif, therefore it does seem plausible that Magne is about to enter into a love triangle of mythic proportions.
